ADDRESSING ENVELOPES

Writing envelopes correctly is very important. Names and addresses must be carefully typed if you want a letter to reach its destination. Most word document programs contain an envelope labelling function to help you. All you need to do is indicate the size of envelope you are using and type the correct information in the appropriate fields, for example:

The sender’s information is in the top left hand corner of the envelope (opposite the postage stamp). We do not use the titles Mr., Miss or Ms. Before the addressee’s name. (We only use them in the letter). If you don’t know the name of the addressee, use the name of the business organization.
Example: Brown and Sons (Am.)      Messrs. Brown and Sons (Br.)
The street number precedes the street name. The post code appears after the city. The name of the country is included only if necessary.
